IAI BYLAWS CHANGED AT THE TAMPA CONFERENCE

Jean Curtit, Missouri IAI Representative, reported that the IAI changed a number of bylaws at the recent Tampa conference. Some of the bylaw changes Curtit reported include:

  • Resolution 2009-7, which changes the requirement to be an active member - "The active membership of the I.A.I. shall consist of persons actively engaged in the science of forensic identification as an examiner, analyst or practitioner and associated practices. and their Bureau or Department Heads. The foregoing persons must be bona fide employees of, and who receive salaries from National, State, County, or Municipal governments, or some subdivision thereof. and replaces it with: "The active membership of the I.A.I. shall consist of persons actively engaged as an examiner, analyst, practitioner or supervisor in the forensic sciences".
  • Resolution 2009-10, recognizes that Tenprint Identification and Latent Print Identification utilize the same methodology (ACE-V)
  • Resolution 2009-15, changes associate membership definition.
  • Resolution 2009-18, reports on the standardization committees findings in reference to the 1973 resolution that there is no valid basis at this time for requiring that a predetermined minimum number of friction ridge characteristic must be present...

Curtit reported that signatures and publication of these resolutions are pending. More information on these bylaw resolutions may be found at the IAI website
