MOIA MEMBER PUBLISHED AGAIN Barbara Martin-Bailey is once again a published author. Another of her case studies was published in the August 5th issue of Forensic Magazine. In this case, a suspect in a seven year old cold case was identified via photo-facial identification. Click here to read the article. Facial recognition too has been automated. The first such prototype was made by Woodrow Bledsoe in the 1960s and has evolved to commercial systems used by government, financial, and gaming industries in use since the 1990s, according to a paper published by Neil Lydick of the University of Michigan. SWGFAST RESPONDS TO NAS REPORT The Scientific Working Group on Friction Ridge Analysis, Study, and Technology (SWGFAST) has published a response to the National Academy of Science (NAS) report critical of forensic science in the United States. The entire text of the response can be found here. IAI ANNUAL CONFERENCE STARTS The IAI started it's 94th annual conference in Tampa on August 16th at the Tampa Convention Center. As this newsletter went to press, the conference had just started. Check the IAI web site for additional information.
