MOIA MEMBER GETS PUBLISHED

MOIA member Barbara Martin-Bailey has recently published an article in the June 3 issue of Forensic Magazine. The article is a case study where a forensic artist obtains a discernible facial image after technical enhancement fails. Read the full article by clicking here.

EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE CANCELLED

On June 10 Conference Chairman Greg Bailey reported that the MOIA Educational Conference set for June 17-19 would be cancelled due to lack of attendance. Bailey stated that the conference will be rescheduled for 2010.

This is not the first conference to be scheduled or altered. The Metro Toronto Police will not be holding an annual Forensic Identification Conference this year, but will go to a biennial format according to their web site. Other IAI divisions such as Georgia and Florida held joint educational conferences this year while Arizona, Nevada, and Utah divisions will hold a joint conference in Las Vegas later this year according to the IAI web site.

MOIA MEMBER ACHIEVES IAI CERTIFICATION

On June 3 MOIA member Tim Seguin achieved certification by the International Association for Identification as a Crime Scene Investigator, or CCSI (Level 1). Seguin joins a group of fewer than 15 IAI Crime Scene Certified practitioners in the State of Michigan.

Seguin is a Latent Print Examiner with Harding Security Associates supporting the US Army Military Police School and was previously deployed to the Middle East. Prior to that posting Seguin was a Police Officer for the Williamston Police Department near Lansing.

MOIA E-BULLETIN MAKES CHANGES

Starting with this issue, the MOIA e-Bulletin will have a number of changes. It will become a monthly publication and will be the sole official publication of the Michigan-Ontario Identification Association. After a number of conferences between Secretary-Treasurer Greg Bailey and MOIA web site editor Tim Seguin, the consensus was that MOIA's transnational membership would be best served by a monthly bulletin delivered via the internet.

Members and others interested would register their name and e-mail address on the MOIA web site, and a confirmation e-mail complying with the USA CAN-SPAM Act would be sent before the e-mail subscription would start. Thereafter, subscribers would get a plain-text e-mail with a link to the current issue, similar to the method used by the FBI to deliver the Forensic Science Communication bulletin. Subscribers would then click the link to access the e-Bulletin at their leisure. MOIA Web Site policy will apply and e-mail addresses will not be released or sold. Pending policy change the MOIA e-Bulletin will be accepting advertising. E-mail address updates can be done on the MOIA web site's main page, or the newsletter web page.

Persons with news of interest should submit them by e-mail to webmaster@moia.org or via fax at (267) 347-8923.
