STATESIDE TENPRINT/BIOMETRICS EXAMINER
Several job openings are available on the Department of Defense Biometric Examination Services Team (BES Team), which supports the United States military in its global fight against terrorism by processing digital images for identification purposes. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: manually compare latent prints, on screen, with candidate prints retrieved from ABIS in order to establish or eliminate positive identification, in addition to verification of fingerprints to validate the correct sequence. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be customer- and detail-oriented, and possess good decision-making abilities. Experience with digital imaging is preffered. In addition to these duties, examiners will process face and iris images following training and certification as a Facial and Iris Recognition Expert by the DoD. Tenprint examiners will also be offered an opportunity to undergo an extensive two year training program to become Latent Print Examiners (LPEs) and obtain certification as an LPE through the International Association for Identification.
The current positions are with Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I3) and contracted to the Department of Defense. I3 has very competitive salaries and a generous benefits package. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience as set out by IAI guidelines for obtaining IAI Tenprint Examiner certification is preferred. Current certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI) as a Tenprint Examiner is also preferred. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: examination of processed latent fingerprints and evaluation of their quality for entry into the DoD Enterprise ABIS; preparation of latent fingerprints for entry into the ABIS through photographic enlargements, tracing, photographic reduction and computer scanning; improve the quality and integrity of digitized computer images through enhancement or deletion of fingerprint details prior to computer searches for matches; manually compare latent fingerprints with candidate fingerprints retrieved from ABIS in order to determine positive identification; and prepare reports on the types and quantites of fingerprints processed and results. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be customer- and detail-oriented, and possess good decision-making abilities. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Current certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI) as a Latent Print Examiner is not required at the point of employment, but must be successfully obtained within 1 year of eligbility. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Those with current clearance preferred. SR. LATENT PRINT EXAMINER
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: examination of processed latent fingerprints and evaluation of their quality for entry into the DoD Enterprise ABIS; preparation of latent fingerprints for entry into the ABIS through photographic enlargements, tracing, photographic reduction and computer scanning; improving the quality and integrity of digitized computer images through enhancement or deletion of fingerprint details prior to computer searches for matches; manually comparing latent fingerprints with candidate fingerprints retrieved from ABIS in order to determine positive identifications; and preparing reports on the types and quantities of fingerprints processed and results. High-volume throughput lab experience preferred, as well as vast experience in the examination and identification of extremely fragmented ridge detail AKA (Complex examinations).
The position may also involve supervisory duties including auditing other CLPE’s casework and mentoring less experienced CLPE’s in best practices & procedures. Familiarity with ASCLD-LAB and/or ISO SOPs is a must.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience plus 12 – 15 years of experience.
Current certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI) as a Latent Print Examiner.
Must:
Be customer- and detail-oriented in addition to possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with good decision-making abilities.
Meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security investigation.
Be able to successfully pass proficiency testing prior to and periodically during employment with the company.
Willing to relocate to Clarksburg, WV.

The work involves a scientific evaluation and comparison in determining the best method of developing, enhancing and preserving latent prints. Compares known and latent prints to determine positive identification or non-identification of the friction ridged detail. Must be a highly qualified latent print examiner. Demonstrated ability to effectively match latent prints to known prints. Demonstrate ability to work well in a team environment. Provide expert testimony in court and or be IAI certified. Proficient in processing porous and non-porous items for latent prints. Experience processing evidence with chemicals in a laboratory setting. |
